Fractal bloggingA final dig at our website thieves

A recursive series of screen captures

Ah, there we go - our masterpiece: a screen capture of a stolen blog post that included a screen capture of a stolen blog post that included a screen capture of a stolen blog post.

This little piece of involuntarily collaborative art deserves a title. Suggestions?

How about "A Victory for Good: The Devil Gets Burned Thrice."

or: "The Devil isn't into the Details."

In all seriousness though, I look forward to seeing how this little story ends...I guess we sit and wait for the slimeball to read his own site.

Hey what about one of those reverse countdown clocks- counting how long it takes the creep to take notice??

Well, that speaks to a very real problem in dealing with this: how much of our community's attention should I be focusing on our particular situation? I don't want to become the all-BM-Devil, all-the-time site... but on the other hand, this has been a lot of fun.

There's a perverse incentive here: attention (particularly of the Google-juice-creating variety) is exactly what a scraper is looking for. Pace Louis Brandeis, sunlight may be the best disinfectant, but what if you have a solar-powered bacterium?

I love this!

My personal approach allows all sorts of similar fun.

While more focused on website thievery, the Ajax Kill Switch allows for all sorts of options on the thief's 'new' website.

Using a bit of JSONP (which allows cross-domain JavaScript execution) and a hard-coded script address, we have the power of JavaScript page modification on the thief's site.

Cue the mischief :)
